12/15/2017. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Around D-Day, RAF No. 609 Fighter Squadron and its Typhoons were deployed to RAF Thorney Island on the south coast of the UK. They supported the invasion, attacking surface targets with their four 0.787 in (20 mm) cannon and an external load of bombs (up to 2,000 lb, 908 kg) or eight 60 lb (27 kg) rockets.
The ground crew standing on the aircraft are looking at circling Typhoons, as the APS photo above was cut from this original.”
