Stearman E75 PT-13D Kaydet

12/31/2019. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Some 1,786 Stearman Model E75 aircraft were delivered from June 1943 to February 1945. The Stearman Model E75 was the only attempt at standardizing Army and Navy Stearmans, all with 225 hp Lycoming R-680-17s. However, the 873 Army aircraft, designated PT-13D, were fitted with McCauley ground adjustable steel propellers, while the 895 Navy aircraft, designated N2S-5, were fitted with wooden Sensenich propellers. The aircraft were built under USAAF serials, but all had also a Navy BuNo allotted, and all were delivered painted silver, although the Navy later painted a number of theirs yellow.

The pictured aircraft was delivered to the Army at Jones AAF, Bonham, Texas on July 22, 1944. Later it was assigned to the 2532nd Base Unit at Randolph AAF near San Antonio. On September 27, 1946 it was involved in an accident 2 mls (3 km) west of Selma, near Randolph AAF. It came on the US civil registry as N5204N in 1949, subsequently it was registered to Omer Crawford Shively of Shreveport, Louisiana for twenty years (February 9, 1950 to August 19, 1970). The fate of the aircraft is unknown.

On Boeing press photos of this particular aircraft, the Army serial is pictured on the fuselage and the Navy designation N2S-5 and the BuNo 5294O on the tail. The BuNo is incorrect, as that was allotted to a batch of 423 aircraft (52627 to 53049) that had been cancelled."
