12/31/2013. Remarks by Les Morris: "In 1946 my father, George Morris, pictured here in 1990, bought this aircraft for around $150.00 from a local farmer and business man who lived near RCAF Station Macdonald, Northwest of Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, who had purchased a number of surplus Bristol Bolingbrokes and Fairey Battles from the Canadian Department of National Defence at end of WWII.
My father had been building a box for his brand new 1946 Ford and he tied the tail of the yellow "Bolly" (its nickname) to the partially completed box to tow the plane home, as pictured above. I remember, as a small boy in early 1950s, that many farms had some 'yellow' sitting in the yard, ours remained there till 2012.
The Morris family donated 'Bolly' to 17 Wing Winnipeg in October 2012 and in October 2013 17 Wing used heavy equipment to load the fuselage and wings onto a flatbed truck for transportation to Winnipeg, together with wheels, props, engines and most instruments, for restoration. She is 90% original except for a few external parts. A representative of 17 Wing said that 'although the restoration of this aircraft is anticipated to be challenging, the Royal Canadian Air Force and a dedicated crew of local volunteers are both excited and determined to do so as soon as possible.'"
