Grumman G-44 Super Widgeon

03/31/2024. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "This G-44 Super Widgeon was built for the USN as a J4F-2 under the BuNo. 32958, and was taken on charge on May 19, 1943. It was struck off charge at NAS Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, on September 30, 1946.

As NC1069M it came on the civil US Register on March, 31, 1947, owner was H.L. Brundage of Miami, Florida. It was reregistered to N69T on April 6, 1953, and to N86T on January 24, 1957.

Subsequently it was converted to a Super Widgeon and fitted with 270 hp Lycoming GO-480-B1B engines. It was exported to Canada, registered CF-KKF it had three subsequent owners: Donald S. Paterson of Winnipeg, Manitoba (January 29, 1958), G. Blair Gordon of Montreal, Quebec (July 7, 1961), and Boothe Leasing of Canada Ltd. at Toronto, Ontario (October 1964).

The aircraft returned to the USA, and was registered to McKinnon Enterprises Inc. at Sandy, Oregon, as N13122 on March 23, 1967. It again received stronger engines, 295 hp Lycomings, and received a new CofA on October 2, 1967. Between January 1970 and early 2002 it was registered to James S. Magoffin of Fairbanks, Alaska. Since April 9, 2002, it has been registered to the Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum, next to Lake Hood, in Anchorage.
