02/28/2023. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "This aircraft was built for the USAAC in late 1936, by late 1941 the aircraft was in service with the 103rd Observation Squadron of the 26th Observation Group based at State Airport, Hillsgrove, Rhode Island, USA.

On January 19, 1942, the pilot, Charles W. Horton Jr., had to make a forced landing when he ran out of gas in bad weather. The attempt ended in a crash landing in Millbury, Massachusetts, some 35 mls (56 km) northwest of the home base at Hillsgrove. The aircraft was destroyed, the fate of the pilot (and eventual second occupant) is unknown.

By the time of the crash the US Army Air Corps had been renamed US Army Air Forces (June 20, 1941), hence the different service markings on the aircraft."
