09/30/2016. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "In 1948, the Aviación Naval Argentina (Argentine Naval Aviation) became the first Latin American naval air arm to introduce helicopters into service, six Bell 47D having been delivered to the Segunda Escuadra Aeronaval (Second Naval Air Group). In 1953 three Sikorsky S-55s were added and subsequently a specialized helicopter unit, the Escuadrilla Aeronaval de Helicópteros (Naval Air Helicopter Squadron), was formed in October 1955, still within the Segunda Escuadra Aeronaval.
Next the sole Sikorsky S-58 was taken on strength on October 17, 1957, initially coded 2-HT-10, recoded 2-PH-10 on December 26, 1958, then 2-PH-406 in May 1959. On June 5, 1959, it crashed while on a rescue mission, repaired it returned to service in 1960. The aircraft was lost in a pre-flight fire at Base Aviacion Naval Commandante Espora, Bahía Blanca, Buenos Aires Province on April 25, 1961."
