09/30/2008. The R.B.2 Sydney long-range maritime reconnaissance and coastal patrol flying boat was designed to the Air Ministry Specification R.5/27 issued in 1927. Intended for service with the RAF the all-metal aircraft was powered by three 525 hp Rolls-Royce F.XII.M.S. twelve-cylinder liquid-cooled V-engines, and made its first flight on July 18, 1930. At that time it was the largest monoplane flying boat flown in the UK. |
