de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk Mk.22A

01/31/2011. Remarks by Ron Smith: "Originally built as a DHC-1 Chipmunk T.Mk.10 by the parent de Havilland company, this aircraft was delivered to the RAF under serial WK611 on April 16, 1952. Struck off charge only three years later, August 16, 1955, this aircraft came on the British register as a Chipmunk Mk.22A, registered G-ARWB on January 2, 1962. It had three owners before it was registered to Aero Bonner at Shoreham Airport, Sussex on December 31, 1974.

In 1979, this Chipmunk was modified to act as test bed and demonstrator for the 200 hp Aero Bonner Super Sapphire V6 aero engine, liquid-cooled by a ventrally mounted radiator. G-ARWB was flown for the first time with its new engine on July 2, 1979 and was subsequently displayed at the SBAC Show at Farnborough. The aircraft is also referred to as the Aero Bonner Chipmunk 200. Aero Bonner sold the aircraft on October 9, 1986, and presently it is in the hands of its tenth owner."
