05/15/2020. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "On February 1, 2007, Canada's Department of National Defence purchased four C-17As for the CAF, to be delivered from August 2007 till spring 2008. To enable this short delivery time, the aircraft were diverted from a USAF order already under construction. They were test flown under US civil registrations, where after they were handed over to the CAF as CC-177s. A fifth aircraft was ordered on December 19, 2014, this was delivered within fifteen weeks, arriving in Canada on March 30, 2015.

The aircraft was produced under the USAF serial 07-7701, it is pictured while being towed to the paint shop on June 14, 2007.

On June 27, 2007, after almost two weeks in the paint shop, it was towed to the flight line for preparation for its maiden flight.

Registered N9500B the aircraft made a three hours and 45 minutes first flight on July 20, 2007. It was handed-over to the CAF on August 8, designated CC-177 and serialed 177701, it was officially delivered to 429 'Bisons' Transport Squadron at CFB Trenton, Ontario, Canada, on August 12, 2007.
