Fairey Battle Mk.I

04/30/2014. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "This aircraft was built as an Battle Mk.I under the RAF serial R3950 in the Austin Motors shadow factory at Longbridge in 1939. On April 7 1941 it was delivered to the RCAF (reserialed 1899) and subsequently converted to a Battle T.T.Mk.I target tug on July 1, 1941. The aircraft was struck off charge at RACF Station MacDonald, Manitoba, Canada on February 16, 1945 and sold as surplus to Peel James, a farmer in Alberta.

In 1970 James resold it to Thomas Voll in Michigan, USA, who intended to restore it to airworthiness., however, two years later the aircraft was bought by Sir William Roberts for the Strathallan Aircraft Collection at Auchterader, Scotland. In 1987 Charles Church of Winchester, Hampshire, England, became the new owner, who loaned it to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford, Cambridgeshire.

In 1989 it was bought by Tim Roustis for the Historic Aircraft Collection, and in 1990 it was transferred to the Musee Royal de l'Armee (Royal Military Museum) at Brussels, Belgium, in exchange for the Supermarine 379 Spitfire F.Mk.XIV (s/n RN201)."
