06/05/2016. Remarks by Walter van Tilborg: "This DH-4B was a very accurate, to approximately 70% scale, replica of the American version of the British Airco D.H.4B two-seat day bomber of WWI. Designed by Roy McCaldin of Tucson, Arizona, USA, the type was not intended for amateur construction and featured a mixed wood/fabric construction; power plant was a 125 hp Lycoming O-290 engine. Construction of the aircraft by McCaldin was started in 1984.
The replica was registered as a McCaldin Model B on February 9, 1989, the following month it was first flown and it received its CofA on March 10. Subsequently the engine was replaced by an 160 hp Lycoming IO-320-B series, resulting in an improved overall performance. The aircraft has flown with vintage US Mail markings (above), with military markings, as well as a mix of both.
The one-of-a-kind aircraft was being offered for sale in 2009 and since November 17, 2009, it is registered to Brian Becker of Tucson."
