Saab 90A-1 Scandia

03/31/2007. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This was the prototype of the Scandia and it made its first flight in November 16, 1946. It was leased to AB Aerotransport (ABA)/Swedish Airlines, from December 11, 1948 to March 19, 1949.

On March 24, 1950, it was sold in Brazil, registered PP-XEA and leased to the Brazilian airline VASP (Viação Aérea São Paulo) on May 15, 1950; VASP purchased the aircraft on October 20, 1950 and reregistered it PP-SQB. It was sold on August 3, 1953, reregistered in Brazil as PT-ARS and passed through a number of owners until stored at Marte Airport, São Paulo, Brazil, in July 1964. It was scrapped in January 1972.

The Scandia did not offer any particular advantages over the Douglas DC-3, which it was designed to replace, and did not cause interest from airlines at the time. Only 18 Scandias were built and the last one came off the assembly line in 1954." View also photo 6598.
