American Air Jet 2A 01 American

07/31/2009. Remarks by Walter van Tilborg: "American Air Jet, Incorporated was founded to continue the development of the Eagle helicopter of Eagle Helicopter Corporation. It was a design of a team comprising Stephen Willman, Russell Pitts, Michael Diekman and Raymond Berry.

The American used the so called Pressure Jet principle in which compressed air was ejected through nozzles at the tips of the rotor and thus eliminating the need for a tail rotor. The aircraft had a 280 hp Mazda 13-B rotary engine driving the compressor and it was first publicly shown (unflown at the time) during the 1988 EAA Sun 'n Fun convention. A first flight was made in July 1988, but development was soon halted."
