Roberts Sceptre I

03/31/2024. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "The single-seat Sceptre I was an original design of Larry T. Roberts from Yakima, Washington, USA. The original plans called for factory production in a ready-to-fly form by the Roberts Sport Aircraft Co. at Yakima, but this was later changed to kit form. The Sceptre I was suited for aerobatics and featured detachable outer wing panels for easy storage and transport.

Registered N254LR on October 27, 1983, the prototype was first flown the following month, powered by a 48 hp Rotax 503 two-stroke engine. It was followed by two further aircraft, which were also tested with a 65 hp Rotax 532. The Sceptre I was to be available with a 52 hp Rotax 503 as standard and a 65 hp Rotax 532LC as optional engine.

Roberts Sceptre I
(N92RA)

The third Sceptre I was registered N92RA on July 9, 1985. By that time the Roberts Sport Aircraft Co. had been renamed Central Aircraft Co. This Sceptre I had a few modifications, like a higher canopy and ventral strakes under the booms.

A side-by-side two-seater Sceptre II prototype was built in 1985. Generally identical to Sceptre I, this had a wider cabin, and was powered by an 85 hp Limbach L2400 engine. (However, no registration or photos of this aircraft were traceable.) Subsequently further development of the Sceptre models was halted. All three Sceptre Is were deregistered as expired in June 2013.
