WALTER VAN TILBORG MEMORIAL PAGE
Walter van Tilborg passed away September 27, 2020.
Fellow countryman Walter joined 1000aircraftphotos.com in January 2003, a few months before I did. Soon thereafter we had contact by e-mail, but it didn't take long before we had contact by phone. Walter had a vast knowledge of powered aircraft built after WW II, with a specific interest in homebuilt aircraft. Over the past seventeen years I have met Walter many times, be it at my place, on an aviation fair in the Netherlands, or for a lunch in the restaurant at Lelystad Airport. Site founder Ron Dupas also met Walter on several occasions Ron and his wife, Martha, made me a visit.
Beside a large collection of publications on his favorite subjects, he also had a large collection of information supplied by designers, builders and/or owners of aircraft, the subject aircraft often being a one-of-a-kind. I considered Walter as a walking encyclopedia, although he processed the data into an "electronic book", which now consists of over 8,000 types.
So far the site has some 340 pages with photo contributions by Walter, many more photos are in our files. Walter also provided remarks to some 350 photos, almost equally divided to his and other collections.
