The Savage was designed by the italian aeronautical engineers Bonaldo, Franchini and Vizzini. Prototypes were built in Italy, the first flying in 1999. Series production is undertaken by Zlin at Holešov Airport, Czech Republic. The French company Avions Légers Multi-Services developed it into the Calao.
