10/31/2007. The Windsor was built to Specification B.5/41, for a pressurized high-altitude heavy bomber, having a speed of 345 mph (555 kmh) at 31,000 ft (9,449 m). There were three Windsor prototypes flown:

     Type 447, s/n DW506, four 1,315 hp Rolls-Royce Merlin 65 engines
     Type 457, s/n DW512, four 1,635 hp Rolls-Royce Merlin 85 engines
     Type 461, s/n NK136, four 1,635 hp Rolls-Royce Merlin 85 engines.

The pictured second prototype was flown for the first time by Maurice Summers from Wisley on February 15, 1944. Later it was modified, including re-covering the wings, increasing the tail plane incidence, fitting a modified tail wheel and fitting the rudder of the first prototype (DW506 was damaged beyond repair in a forced landing on March 2, 1944). Test continued until the program was cancelled on March 15, 1946. DW512 was put up for disposal on June 28, 1946 and subsequenly scrapped.
