This provided, contrary to the MB-326, vertically staggered seats for pupil and instructor. First flown August 12, 1976, 100 were delivered to Italian Air Force, several were exported.

While the MM54487 is still active with 313^o Gruppo AA at Cap. Mario Visentine AFB, Udine, Italy, the MB-339X (MM588) crashed at Casale Litta, Varese, on June 15, 1982."
