Lockheed 188A Electra

02/28/2010. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "First flown on March 20, 1959, the aircraft was delivered to National Airlines registered as N5001K on April 1, 1959. After ten years with the US airline it was sold to Trans Arctic Airlines on September 30, 1969, to be sold 2.5 years later to Canada, where it was registered to Pacific Western Airlines as CF-PWG on April 20, 1972. In April 1976 it was acquired by MCA Leasing in the USA, registered as N415MA, and subsequently it was converted to an 188PF (passenger/freight or combi-version).

Temporarily registered 8R-GEW it was operated by Guyana Airways from October 20, 1976 to September 20, 1977, and returned to MCA, taking up its previous identity of N415MA. Reregistered N341HA it was operated by Hawaiian Airlines from March 1978, the same year the freight division of that airline was taken over by Zantop International Airlines, including N341HA.

Zantop leased the aircraft to the UK based operator Channel Express Air Services three times: September 1991 to May 1992; August 1992 to January 1994; July 1995 to April 1997. Subsequently the aircraft was withdrawn from use and stored at Zantop's home base Willow Run Airport near Detroit. It was scrapped in January 2008."

The picture was taken when John Voss was about to board for a flight to Seattle, Washington, USA.
