Lockheed 137-27-02 Ventura Mk.IIA

07/03/2005. Remarks by John Voss: "This aircraft was ordered by the USAAF under the Lend-Lease program as a B-34A, s/n 41-38117, for delivery to the RAF as a Ventura Mk.IIA, s/n FD665. However, built by Vega, it was retained and used by the USAAF. In October 1942, it was redesignated RB-34A, the "R" indicating the aircraft was restricted to non-combat missions. In the summer of 1943 it was transferred to the Royal New Zealand AF (RNZAF).

It was taken on charge by the RNZAF at Hobsonville on August 6, 1943, as a Ventura Mk.IIA, s/n NZ4600, and was assigned to No. 4 TTS (Technical Training School) at RNZAF Base Nelson. Struck off charge it was sold to V. Russ, a local farmer, on November 12, 1947. In 1971 the remains were obtained by the museum and with parts of other Venturas the aircraft was restored to static display quality."
