Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "In 1983 the Classic Aircraft Corporation was founded at Capital City Airport, Lansing, Michigan to start modernized production of the fifty-year-old Waco YMF-5 design of the mid-1930s under the original FAA Type Certificate. Classic Aircraft began construction of a prototype, redesignated F-5, in March 1984, being built on new production tooling and incorporated over 300 engineering changes, the latest constructional techniques, tolerances and materials, like 4130 steel for the fuselage frame, hydraulic toe brakes and new avionics.

Fitted with a 245 hp Jacobs R-755-B2 seven-cylinder air-cooled radial engine and registered N1935B (c/n F5-001) the three-seat aircraft made its first flight on November 20, 1985. It received FAA certification in March 1986, by which time seven aircraft had been ordered. The upgraded model F-5 Super was introduced in 1991 featuring more internal width, more legroom, increased useful load, a balanced rudder, a large front entry door and optional equipment.

In 1998 the company was renamed WACO Classic Aircraft Corporation and relocated to a temporary location in Battle Creek, while it also introduced the C-model of the by then designated YMF series, featuring a 275 hp R-755 (and more optional equipment). In 2000 the company moved to its present facilities at the WK Kellogg Airport near Battle Creek. In final stages of testing is the next production model, the YMF-D, powered by a 300 hp R-755-A2, for which the YMF-C N369AS c/n F5C-046 is acting as the prototype."
