This F-27 prototype flew first on April 12, 1958, and was badly damaged when the landing gear collapsed while parked on the apron on May 9, 1958. It was repaired and in 1959 converted to an F-27A. On June 26, 1959 it was sold to AREA of Equador and registered HC-ADV. It crashed into a mountain on approach to Quito-Mariscal Sucre Airport, Equador on November 7, 1960. All 34 passengers and 3 crew were killed. |
