The conversion involved a modified rear cabin to accommodate a chemical hopper, the removal of the rear cabin windows and the aircraft was changed into a (strutted wing) biplane, with the lower wings coming from Luscombe Model 8A Silvaire aircraft.
The Clevenger L-5 was powered by a 220 hp Continental W-670 seven-cylinder air-cooled radial engine (alternatively with a Lycoming R-680 nine-cylinder radial), replacing the original Lycoming O-435 six-cylinder horizontally-opposed air-cooled engine as used in the L-5.
The first modified aircraft, also known as the Clevenger L-5, flew around 1952 and reportedly up to some 20 aircraft may have been produced. Known registrations are:
