Accident occurred December 27, 1988 at Chino, California
Aircraft: Globe GC-1B Swift, registration: N3388K
Injuries: 1 Serious.
During initial climb, at about 300 ft (91 m) above ground level, the pilot reported, a
total loss of engine power was experienced. The pilot maneuvered the aircraft
toward a clearing, lost control and collided with level terrain in a nose low
attitude to a city street. examination of the airframe and engine revealed
adequate sources of wing tank fuel, induction air and ignition. The engine was
partially disassembled and no mechanical malfuntions were noted. A controller
reported that after take off the aircraft climbed to between 250 and 300 ft (76 and 91 m)
above ground level and he observed the aircraft in a high nose up pitch
attitude before the left wing dropped and the aircraft descended out of view.
