01/25/1960. Maj. Joseph Rogers received the Thompson Trophy for setting a world speed record of 1,525.9 mph (2,255.7 kmh) in an F-106 at Edwards AFB, California, USA. The previous record holder was a Russian Sukhoi E66 with a speed of 1,484 mph (2,388 kmh).
