Aircraft delivered February 1, 1957. Not accepted by Air Defense Command. September 1957 - converted to static airframe test ground trainer.

The following text from Aviation Week is not unique to the aircraft pictured:

04/04/1960. Two Convair F-106 intercepters were used by the seven Mercury astronauts for proficiency flying at Langley AFB, Virginia, USA.
