01/22/2007. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This was the first production C-131A and is shown in the markings of the Continental Division of the Military Air Transport Service (MATS). It was delivered to the USAF on April 1, 1954 as a C-131A-CO; when used for casualty evacuation with 27 stretchers in the cabin, the aircraft was designated MC-131A-CO.

In 1977/1978, this was one of 22 surplus C-131As transferred to the USCG as an interim replacement for the Grumman HU-16 Albatross prior to the delivery of the Dassault-Breguet HU-25A Guardian. They were converted to search and rescue aircraft and redesignated HC-131s with their s/nr becoming the last four digits of the USAF s/n thus this aircraft was HC-131A, USCG s/n 5781. After conversion, it was assigned to USCG Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas, USA. In July 1981, the aircraft was retired and sent to the MASDC. It is assumed that the aircraft has been scrapped."
