One of five test and evaluation aircraft, designated YAC-1 Caribou, made its initial manufacturer test flights registered as CF-LKU-X. It was redesignated YCV-2A in 1962 and YC-7A in 1968.

The following text from Aviation Week is not unique to the aircraft pictured:
01/23/1961. de Havilland AC-1 Caribou STOL twin-engine transport can carry 30 combat troops or 3 tons of cargo, and has a maximum range of 1,400 mls (2,253 km) The Caribou transport can handle cargo loads up to the size of an Army Jeep vehicle.
02/28/1966. Caribou Fills Valuable Role in Vietnam. Army de Havilland CV-2B Caribou has been a valuable addition to the intratheater airlift capability, which at times has run a full week behind in the scheduled movement of personnel. There are now over 50 Caribous in Vietnam including a detachment of six belonging to the Royal Australian Air Force, stationed in Vung Tao, and three companies of Army Caribous. Air Force has designated 30 fields in Vietnam as safe for CV-2B operation which are marginal for Fairchild C-123s, making the Caribous a valuable adjunct to the over-all airlift capability.
