10/31/2006. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This aircraft was one of three obtained from the USA for the Royal Canadian Navy. It was ordered by the USAF as an H-25A-PH, s/n 51-16623, for the US Army. It was delivered to the Royal Canadian Navy at RCNAS Shearwater, Nova Scotia, Canada, on May 18, 1954 in US Army markings. Initially coded '947,' it was recoded '247' in June 1955. All of the HUP-3s served with Helicopter Squadron Twenty One (HU-21) from Shearwater, Royal Canadian Navy aircraft carriers and occasionally survey ships. It was struck off charge on January 18, 1964 and marked '623' before being restored by Boeing Canada. It is now on display at the National Aviation Museum at Rockcliffe, Ontario." |
