"TCA's great Super Constellation Skyliners provide a new high in luxury, speed and passenger comfort."
Remarks by Jack McKillop:
"This aircraft was delivered to Trans-Canada Air Lines
(TCA) of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on February 26, 1954 registered
CF-TGA and assigned Fleet Number 401. The aircraft was designed as an
overwater transport with accommodations for nine First Class and 54
Tourist Class passengers.
This was one of five 1049Cs ordered by TCA for use on the
transatlantic route from Toronto, Ontario, and Montreal to Prestwick,
Scotland, and London Heathrow, England. On May 12, 1954, this aircraft
was the first TCA Constellation to arrive at Prestwick. Sometime
between 1954 and 1963, it is believed that this aircraft was
converted to a 1049E/01 or 1049G/02 configuration. The 1049E/01 had a
stronger landing gear permitting a higher take off weight while the
1049G/02 modifications brought the aircraft up to the "Super
G" configuration.
TCA traded this aircraft in to Douglas Aircraft for a DC-8 on
January 9, 1963 with 17,457 hours on the airframe. Douglas sold it to
the aircraft dealer Airmotive Inc. of Burbank, California, USA, and the
Connie was stored at Burbank and used for spare parts. By December
1964, the outer wings, tail and engines had been removed. The
aircraft was scrapped ca. late 1966."
