Probably the most successful Navy fighter ever, the Phantom entered the fleet in 1961 and served for nearly a quarter of a century.
01/31/2017. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "These two aircraft are assigned to the USN's Fighter Squadron Three Hundred Two (VF-302), a Naval Reserve unit based as NAS Miramar (now MCAS Miramar), near San Diego, California and assigned to Reserve Carrier Air Wing Thirty (CVWR-30).
This squadron was issued F-4Bs in November 1973 but these were replaced with F-4Ns in January 1975. During their time with the F-4N, VF-302 won the US Naval Reserve Battle 'E', signifying them as the best fighter squadron in the Naval Reserve. The squadron transitioned to the F-4S in 1981 and in February 1985 received their first Grumman F-14A Tomcat.
