Remarks by Seth Schlifer: "This sailplane is actually a Schleicher K-6E, not a Scheibe L-SPATZ. The L-SPATZ was a steel tube frame, and fabric covered. The nose displayed the typical angular shape due to this construction method. The K-6E, however, has a plywood monocoque construction, which allowed for lovely compound curves, as shown in the photo. Also the horizontal "stabilator" on the K-6E is a giveaway feature." (Note: This aircraft was originally mis-identified by me as an L-SPATZ.)

05/25/2003. Remarks by Brian Evans: "I suspect that what you have is a picture of a much rarer bird- the Schleicher ka6cr-pe. Before Schleicher produced the Ka6e it was preceded by in order by the Ka6 which was fitted with a wheel but no brake then the br which stood for bremsrader (wheelbrake) followed by the cr which had improved performance, then followed by the Ka6cr-pe which stood for pendulum elevator, this ship was a cr with an all flying tail. The ka6e had a fiberglass nose and the canopy was longer with no sharp corner. The fuselage was also lower."
