"Project Mercury MA-3 Spacecraft is being taken to the recovery area by a helicopter of the Wing Air Group 26. The spacecraft was picked up in the ocean, 350 yd (320 m) off Cape Canaveral. The emergency escape system successfully separated the spacecraft from its malfunctioning Atlas booster during a Mercury one-orbit launching attempt on Tuesday, April 25, 1961."
