The NASA launched an Atlas-Agena B rocket combination from Cape Canaveral, Fla., carrying the 675-pound Ranger I spacecraft. Lift-off was at 6:04 EDT, August 23, 1961. Mission failed, Agena stage failed to ignite.
12/09/2004. Remarks by Art LeBrun: "The Agena burned once to go into orbit and the second burn to go deep into space did start but shutdown abruptly after a few seconds. The next Ranger mssion suffered a complete failure to restart for the second burn."
