04/27/1964. DHC-5 BUFFALO MAKES FIRST FLIGHT. The de Havilland of Canada DHC-5 Buffalo, formerly called the Caribou 2, carries a US military designation of CV-7. The Buffalo can carry a payload of more than 5 tons or 44 passengers. Military version can carry 41 combat troops, 35 paratroopers, or 24 litters and six seats. DHC-5's maximum speed is 232 kt (267 mph, 430 kmh). Take off distance over a 50-ft (15 m) obstacle is 1,225 ft (373 m). Army will test DHC-5 in early 1965.
