04/19/2007. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This was the 549th 727 built and it made its first flight on March 13, 1968. Ten days later, it was delivered to the US airline Frontier Airlines of Denver, Colorado, registered N7278F. It was then sold to Braniff International Airways of Dallas, Texas, on March 13, 1972 and re-registered N408BN.

For the celebration of the Bicentenial in 1976, Braniff contracted Alexander Calder to design an colour scheme for a 727 flagship of the US fleet. The "Flying Colours" as the creation was known, was only applied to N408BN. The name of Braniff was omitted, but the name Calder appeared 14 ft (4.27 m) long on the forward fuselage.

It was next sold to a leasing company on May 12, 1982 and immediately leased back to Braniff until February 19, 1985.

After being sold to another leasing company, it was leased to:
- Pride Air of New Orleans, Louisiana, between June 1 and November 13, 1985 - Arrow Air of Miami, Florida, between December 11, 1985 to January 1986
- Skybus of Denver, Colorado, March to September 1986 who immediately
sub-leased it to World Airways
- Air Atlanta of Atlanta, Georgia, between November 1986 and April 1987
- Cayman Airways of George Town, Cayman Islands, from July 1987 to March
1990 who re-registered it TC-AJY.

On March 15, 1990, the aircraft was withdrawn from service and placed in storage at Miami International Airport, Florida, and it was re-registered N408BN in June 1990. This aircraft was scrapped at Opa Locka Airport, Miami, Florida, in November 1993."
