02/28/2011. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This Douglas Model DC-3A-456 was ordered by the USAAF as a C-47A-25-DK s/n 42-93466 and delivered on May 22, 1944. Six days later, at Montreal, Quebec, Canada, it was transferred to the RAF under Lend-Lease as a Dakota Mk.III s/n KG621. It was flown to the UK arriving on May 31 and was initially assigned to No. 24 Squadron at RAF Hendon, Middlesex, England and later assigned to No. 271 Squadron at RAF Down Apney, Wiltshire, England on October 7, 1944.
Declared surplus, it was sold to BOAC (British Overseas Airways Corporation) on March 29, 1946, and registered G-AHCU. Only four months later, August 19, it was leased to the new BEA (British European Airways Corporation), formed on August 1, 1946. It was sold to East Anglian Flying Services at the Southend Airport near London on May 18, 1962, the company was renamed Channel Airways Ltd. on October 29, 1962. The aircraft was withdrawn from service on October 16, 1966 and scrapped in January 1970, the registration was cancelled the following February 24."
