11/30/2009. Remarks by Alfred Damen: "As a successor to the Sea Furies, the MLD selected the Sea Hawk FGA.Mk.50, basically similar to the FGA.Mk.6 used by the Royal Navy, and 22 aircraft built by Hawker under British serials (XL237 to XL241, XL269 to XL276, XL305 to XL313, c/n 6621 to 6642) were delivered to the MLD between July 18, 1957 and January 29, 1958.
They were used by No. 3 and No. 860 Squadron, initially serialed 6-50 to 6-71, in the early 1960s they were reserialed 111 to 131. Four Sea Hawks were lost in accidents, four of them were 'cannibalized' for spare parts, while the last Sea Hawks were withdrawn from use on October 23, 1964.
The picture shows 6-66 (former XL308) in use with No. 3 Squadron over the Dutch coast - probably near Noordwijk. The fighter had already been modified to carry Sidewinder missiles, and was later reserialed 128. Plane and pilot were lost in the sea off HMS 'Karel Doorman' on July 8, 1960."
