Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This was the 162nd DC-10 built and was delivered to the US airline National Airlines on June 25, 1975, registered N69NA, named 'Betty' and assigned fleet number '69'. National Airlines merged with Pan American World Airways on January 7, 1980 and this aircraft was renamed 'Clipper Star Light'. On November 25, 1983, it was sold to American Airlines and they reregistered it N161AA in April 1984. It was sold to a leasing company and leased back to American in September 1984. The aircraft was withdrawn from use and placed in storage at Pinal Airpark, Marana, Arizona, USA, in April 1994.
American Airlines sub-leased this aircraft to Hawaiian Airlines of Honolulu, Hawaii, between January 8, 1996 and June 9, 1997 and it was returned to the leasing company on the same day. The next lease was to the charter airline Omni Air International of Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA on November 1, 1997 and it was reregistered N450AX. It was subsequently transferred to 10 Tanker STC, a joint venture of the principals of Omni Air International and Cargo Conversions. It was converted to experimental water bomber based at Southern California Logistics Airport, Victorville, California, USA and listed as Tanker number 910 it was used for the first time on July 16, 2006."
