Three prototypes XFJ-1 (39053 to 39055) were built, followed by thirty FJ-1 (120342 to 120371 c/n 141-38394 to 141-38423), of which 24 were delivered to VF-5A based at NAS North Island (as indicated by the 'S' on the tail) near San Diego, California, USA, late 1947 to April 1948. The squadron was renamed VF-51 in August 1948. |
