06/30/2008. The Model 50 was designed to an USN specification for a long-range twin-engined patrol flying boat capable of flying non-stop from San Francisco to Hawaii. The sole built aircraft had a crew of five and initially was powered by two tandem mounted 800 hp Packard 2A-2500 twelve-cylinder liquid-cooled V-engines. These were replaced in 1928 by two 800 hp Pratt & Whitney R-1860 Hornet nine-cylinder air-cooled radials, the aircraft was redesignated XPB-2. |
