US-Canadian border 1940 - Jim Johnson pulling Lockheed Lodestars accross border thus complying with neutrality laws. This went until US entered the war.
04/28/2004. Remarks by John Bradley: "To comply with neutrality laws which stated military aircraft could not be flown to warring parties, in this case to Canada which was at war with Germany, the various aircraft acquired from the US were flown and taxied to within a few feet of the border. This was usually in the mid-west such as North Dakota/Manitoba borders. The aircraft were then dragged across as you see in the picture, started and flown away. It was a tad silly but it did keep the US within its own Neutrality Act. Hundreds were delivered in this manner to the RCAF and RAF.
One very interesting side bar is that Canada did not receive any Lend-Lease equipment or aircraft. Unlike Britain and a few other countries, Canada paid cash for every item of military hardware and piece of equipment it received throughout the war."
