Gil Halpin grew up at the World famous Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome where his father was one of the first supporters and a pilot for Cole Palens first weekend airshows. His family has owned a small collection of vintage aircraft which was based at the also famous but now defunct Stormville Airport. Gil soloed at 16 was in a Brunner Winkle Bird biplane and has been flying vintage aircraft ever since! He studied aviation history his entire life as well and has been fortunate enough to amass a large collection of books/magazines/pictures/and assorted memorabilia. Gil works with the Old Rhinebeck museum as well as others. He is the founder and President of the Dutchess County Aviation Historical Society which documents the history here over the great Hudson River Valley since Glenn Curtiss made his famous flight in 1910 down the river to New York City. |
