McDonnell Douglas EF-18A C.15 Hornet

03/31/2011. Remarks by Bart Hoekstra: "In December 1982, Spain ordered 72 single-seat and 12 two-seat versions of the Hornet for the Ejercito del Aire Espanol (Spanish AF). These are being referred to as EF-18A and EF-18B (the 'E' standing for Espania, Spain), while the Spanish AF designated them C.15 and CE.15. The single-seat number was reduced to 60 on May 31, 1983, and the serials allotted were C.15-13 to C.15-72 and CE.15-1 to CE.15-12.

The first Spanish Hornet to fly was a two-seater, EF-18B s/n CE.15-01, on December 4, 1985, and all 12 two-seaters had been delivered by early 1987, after which the 60 EF-18A single-seaters were delivered, the last in July 1990. In late 1995 the Spanish government approved the purchase of 24 USN F/A-18As, by early 2000 these had been delivered under the s/n C.15-73 thru C.15-96.

The pictured aircraft is wearing special markings to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ala 12 (12th Wing), based at Torréjon near Madrid, while it participated in the 2011 'Águila' DACT (Dissimilar Air Combat Training) exercise, which took place at Gando AB."
