02/28/2007. Remarks by Bernhard Klein: "The plane is seen during a test flight of the Pratt & Whitney Canada PW530 turbofan engine, installed in the forward starboard nacelle behind cockpit. First flight in this configuration was on May 29, 1994 from St. Hubert Airport, Quebec, Canada.
In February 1961 the aircraft was original delivered to American Airlines, registered as N7538A and named Idaho. In the early sixties Astrojet was the type name given by American Airlines to all their jet aircraft. In September 1972 the aircraft was sold to Middle East Airlines and registered as OD-AFQ.
Early in 1986 the aircraft was acquired by the engine manufacturer and has since been used to flight test a variety of of engines. Turboshaft engines like PT6, PW100 and PW150 have been fitted in the extended nose; the PW306, PW308, PW530, PW545 and PW615 in the nacelle behind the cockpit and the huge IAE2500 on a special pylon."
