03/31/2011. Remarks by Jack McKillop:
"The MD-11 is essentially a stretched Douglas DC-10 that has more advanced engines and aerodynamic modifications designed to reduce fuel consumption; a lengthened fuselage to carry more passengers; and a cockpit redesign for two-pilot operation.
This MD-11 rolled off the assembly line in October 1992 and was delivered to the Taiwan Government on November 13, 1992 registered B-151. It was leased to China Airlines of Taipei, Taiwan from November 13, 1992 to July 31, 2002. During that period, it was subleased to Mandarin Airlines of Taipei from November 14, 1995 to July 31, 2002. Mandarin Airlines reregistered it B-18172 in December 1999.
It was withdrawn from use on July 29, 2002, and stored at Mojave, California, USA. On October 29, 2004, it was sold to the cargo airline Federal Express (FedEx) of Memphis, Tennessee as N577FE. It was subsequently converted to a freighter by Aeronvali Naples of Naples, Italy from May 2 to October 30, 2005. As of this date, it is still in service with FedEx."
