02/28/2011. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This Douglas Model DC-3A-467 was ordered by the USAAF as a C-47B-1-DK and delivered in August 1944. It was initially delivered to the 313th Troop Carrier Group, Ninth Air Force at Folkingham, Lincolnshire, England on September 1, 1944. It was later issued to the 37th Troop Carrier Squadron, 316th Troop Carrier Group based at Cottesmore, Rutland, England and participated in the airborne assault across the Rhine River near Wesel, Germany in March 1945.
The aircraft remained in Europe after World War II and was based at Tempelhof Airport, Berlin in January 1948. In June 1948, it was transferred to the Airways and Air Communications Service (AACS), a subcommand of the Military Air Transport Command (MATS). (I served three years in two different AACS units.)
In September 1949, the superchargers were removed and the aircraft was redesignated C-47D, By May 1950, the aircraft was back in the US but had returned to Germany in December 1952 assigned to the US Air Forces in Europe (USAFE). In 1970, it was assigned to RAF Mildenhall, England until transferred to Sondrestrom Air Base, Greenland on October 28, 1970. The aircraft was struck off charge on November 30, 1970 at Sondrestrom."
