Philo contacted me on May 29, 2004, asking to identify the aircraft in a photo taken by a friend. This contact resulted in a friendship that lasted fifteen years to the day. Philo, and his lovely wife Sue, generously invited my son and me to their home as starting point for two marvelous tours through many states of the USA, visiting a number of other site friends.
Philo became a contributor, with his first contributions posted on-line on July 29, 2004. As a professional pilot for 36 years with the US Navy, US Army, and United Air Lines, as well as a private pilot in later years, Philo had a lot of knowledge about aircraft, which he loved to share.
Philo was not only a contributor, he also was my editor for many years. His remarks to my scribbles were direct, constructive, often with wicked humor. As a Dutchman, my English is based on British grammar, obviously this led to a number of discussions. One of these was about me using too many hyphens, resulting in what Philo kiddingly described as the "continuing hyphen-war" (this should bring a smile to his face).
