M.16E, the
M.17E was its rotary-powered counterpart. The M.17E was smaller and had a crash pylon above the fuselage. It was fitted with an 80 hp Oberursel rotary engine, and carried a single Spandau LMG.08/15 machine gun. Later it was fitted with staggered wings, and via the
M.17Z with longer wings, this type eventually led to the D-series.
