05/31/2008. Developed in China as the unarmed two-seat trainer version of the J-5 (license-built MiG-17), the JJ-5 (Jianjiji Jiaolianji-5, Fighter Trainer-5) incorporated the canopy of the MiG-15. A total of 1,061 were produced, including the export-version designated FT-5, sold to, amongst others, Albania, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The aircraft is finished in the markings of the "August 1" aerobatic team. August 1 is the birthday of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, the 1927-established unified military organization of all Chinese land, sea, and air forces.
